Are You Thirsty

Your purpose, your worth and happiness are all hidden in Jesus. Things of this world only fill you up temporarily.

The true living water that Jesus speaks of in the scripture of the Samaritan woman at the well, (John‬ ‭4:4-26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬), represents God’s Spirit, the Spirit that is living inside of you, that is ready to truly fill you up and not suck you dry.

Stop searching for your fill in people and things. Those are temporary fixes that leave you feeling thirsty for more, empty, even aching on the inside and still searching for something, desperate for something better than this, whatever your ‘this’ is.

Like the woman at the well give Jesus a chance, listen to what he is whispering to your heart. Lean in, sit at his feet, just breathe in his essence, soak him up, saturate yourself with him. He will refresh, rejuvenate, revive you. In Him you will find your true self. In Him you will find joy, comfort, peace and purpose.

Surrender you mind and heart to him and see what he can do for you, in you and through you. Now I know you’re thinking, do I have to give it all up? I don’t want to give up everything, I don’t want to lose my control, my individuality, my, my, my, my….I’m afraid I’ll have to do something that makes me uncomfortable. Give something up that I like to do. I won’t have fun anymore. I won’t be fun anymore. I can’t live up to the expectations of Jesus, (good news he has no expectations of you!!) my friends won’t want to hang out with me, they’ll laugh at me. There’s a ton of ‘I’ and ‘ME’ statements in there!

Am I stepping on your toes!!

If you’ve thought any of these things, or others like these, you aren’t completely wrong. But…..didn’t we just establish you’re thirsty for more, you’re feeling empty and unsatisfied? How can you get more satisfaction out of life if you aren’t willing to change what isn’t working. If you aren’t willing to completely surrender yourself, your way of thinking and living, to the One who can make your life more meaningful? But Lorraine I’m too old, too young, I don’t know enough, it’ll take too long, you don’t know who I am or what I’ve done, I’m sinful. I’m uneducated, I’m afraid. I’m stuck in my ways. Excuses. Legitimate in our minds but excuses just the same. If you can truly give yourself to Jesus, by taking one step at a time, he will do the rest. Fix your focus on him. Decide in your mind and heart this is what you want. You will be surprised at the changes in your life, things you’ll stop doing, old habits broken  without realizing it. All because of your intimate relationship with Jesus. When you get close to him you can’t help but change. When you get close to him you can’t help but look more and more like him.

The first thing I noticed in my life to change when I started my personal relationship with Jesus was I stopped cussing as much! Believe me when I tell you I was good at it and liked to use it, frequently. However it got to a point where hearing it come out of my mouth felt wrong, now it’s like nails on a chalk board anytime I slip and say a bad word. I feel icky on the inside and instantly ask for forgiveness. That’s the light of Jesus in my life. The effect the living water has on the inside of me. It will happen for you too.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
