Discipleship

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” Matthew‬ ‭28:18-19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jesus’ last recorded words are significant to all followers of Christ. We are charged to ‘Go’ and to ‘Make’ disciples of all nations. It isn’t a suggestion for a few special people. Jesus is commanding All Christian’s Go into All Nations, sharing their testimonies with Everyone they meet. Making More Disciples along their way. He said GO…

You don’t need to be a Pastor, Missionary, Evangelist or a Teacher. You don’t have to have a special education in Bible Study or Theology. All you need is the willingness to tell people why you love Jesus. How he saved you. What He rescued you from. How much better your life is now. Doesn’t matter if you are a humble layman or a great theologian, go where he wants you to go, allow him to show you the people he needs you to disciple. GO!

I know the thought of sharing our testimony makes a lot of us squirmy. Thats okay, the more we tell our story the more comfortable we become.

Still not convinced?!? Okay look at it this way, if you’re paying for a home and still have years left on your mortgage and someone decides to bless you and pay your mortgage off wouldn’t you tell everyone about their generosity? The blessing you’ve received. We all would, because someone else paid off our debt!!!!!!

Jesus did the same thing by taking on our debt of sin. Without him doing that for us we would be separated from God for all eternity, yikes, you know what that means. Firey pit of H E-double hockey sticks.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans‬ ‭6:23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Because Jesus paid it All for us we will have eternal life with him. Don’t you agree we should pass this exciting news along? Share it with friends, family, coworkers and everyone we meet? Doesn’t everyone deserve to know the goodness of God? How do you suppose these people would feel if they found out you had the secret to eternal life and didn’t share it with them?

So go, go share your story, go share your faith and go make disciples.

You know your story; you know what God has done for you. Your faith is in the promises of God. A disciple is a person who knows and loves God. Serves God with their time, talent and treasure. Worships God with all their heart and shares the Good News with everyone they meet!

“Now wherever you go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew‬ ‭28:19‬ ‭TPT‬‬

This mission is our mission too! Make disciples wherever we go. Not everyone will be open to hear what we have to say and that’s ok. We’re only required to give it our best, plant some seeds. God will take care of the watering, the fertilizing, the growth and harvest by sending others or by doing the work himself. He only asks for our obedience to do our part.

Obedience: Compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to another's authority

It’s never too late to start. Don’t beat yourself up over past failures. Today can be day one of your discipleship. Pray and ask God to send someone across your path today so you can share your story of how God saved you. Ask him for a keen ear to hear his prompting, a willing obedient heart and boldness to speak. GO…….

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” Matthew‬ ‭28:19‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Discipleship is about walking together with others learning more and more about Jesus as you go. Picking up as many as possible as you go. Ask God to show you the people who need to walk alongside you.

Because of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross and his subsequent raising from the dead, love has won, death has lost. Allow this truth to reorient your life, following the path Jesus has set before you to help others make a move toward this wonderful family of faith and eternal life.

Jesus, empower us with your wisdom, your boldness and your power so we may be well equipped to live our lives serving you, sharing what you’ve done in our lives, telling whoever will listen how you saved us so we can pull others from the realm of destruction and darkness into your eternal light. Amen.
