Clean Up Your Thought Life
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 NIV
You cannot choose your circumstances, but you can choose your thoughts.
I have heard it said a person is what he or she continually thinks about. Oh dear, right?
I imagine you would be shocked if you recorded all your thoughts in a day then listened to them. You would be flabbergasted to discover the thoughts you gravitate toward may be the source of most of your issues or problems. Even worse, what if all your thoughts were bubbles over your head or projected onto a BIG screen for everyone to see! I shudder to think about the ramifications of that.
“Our lives are where our thoughts take us. If you don’t like your life, take a deep dive into your thoughts”.
Our lives are the canvas of our souls painted by the colours of our thoughts. What colours are you using? Negative black and white with a splattering of grey? Are you using all the colours in the colour wheel to form a chaotic mess? Haphazardly, dangerously mixing them into a swirling mass of confusion. Are you using a lot of fiery angry reds and oranges? Are you passively using washed out used up pastels from the past? Or are you thoughtfully coloring your life with all the colours, creating a masterpiece of beauty, serenity, joy, kindness, helpfulness, peace, optimism, goodwill and love?
Ultimately, it’s up to you how you paint on your canvas, it’s up to you what colours you use, it’s up to you what kind of masterpiece you create. But ask yourself this: Does it bring me peace and give glory and honour to God? Is your thought process in any way helping anyone?

Today is the perfect day to reposition yourself, to begin thinking good thoughts. To set about a new way of painting your masterpiece. You can begin by replacing heavy, condemning wrong thinking with scripture or by thinking the opposite to any negative thought you may have. Use dry erase markers to write scriptures on your mirror. Practice positive self-talk. I am worthy. I am good. I am a child of God. I am loved. I am adored. I am the apple of my father’s eye. I am smart. I have the mind of Christ. Whatever resonates with you, do that. This way you may live a perfect and satisfying life in the eyes of God.
“Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.” Romans 12:2 TPT
“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23 TPT
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3 ESV
Be confident in knowing and believing no matter what you may have done (wrong) in this life, or may do in the future, those negative thoughts are never ever from God. He’s not one to condemn or preclude you. He loves you intensely and will do everything he can to see you experience your best life here, regardless of your past. He gave his Sons life for yours, don’t waste that by believing you aren’t good enough!
Take ahold of your thought life and fight for positivity. Fill it with positive affirmations and with scriptures. Believe what Gods word says about you. Deal with those negative thoughts aggressively taking authority over them in Jesus’ name! Believe negative thoughts will NOT control your life, negative thoughts do NOT control you. Fix your thoughts on Jesus.
The thief (the devil) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. John 10:10
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:2
Giving Jesus your heart and asking for forgiveness for your sins, is a step in the right direction to adjusting your thought life. Believe Jesus lived, and was crucified on the cross, taking all our sins with him in death and that he rose again to walk this earth before he was taken up to Heaven to be seated at the right hand of God, our Father, when you believe this…. Christ’s work brings forgiveness and salvation—making you right with God—helping you create a wonderful and colourful masterpiece in your thought life.
The heart that believes in him (Jesus) receives the gift of the righteousness of God—and then the mouth confesses, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:10 TPT
Salvation Prayer: Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. Forgive me for my sins and falling short of your glory. I invite you into my heart so I may become a new creation, your masterpiece. I give you complete control to help me to live better, to love better, to trust you fully and to understand the meaning of your mercy and grace. Thank you for your sacrificial gift of dying on the cross for me. I will follow you for the rest of my life. It’s in Jesus name I pray. Amen.
