Reach Out for Jesus
Whenever I wake up in the middle of the night I reach out for Lee, my husband. It brings me comfort to feel him there. He is my rock and my safe place, knowing he’s right there beside me brings me a sense of wellbeing after a bad dream. Those times when I wake up when we’re away from home and wonder where I am, you know with that early morning fuzzy headed this isn’t my bed feeling, I automatically check for him. Every morning and throughout the night I stretch out my hand to feel his warmth and make sure he’s still there. His touch often soothes me back to sleep when I am restless.
This morning as I was resting my hand on Lee’s back, I realized this is how I should be reaching out for Jesus. Whether I have a need for peace, comfort, reassurance or protection I can reach out to Jesus, he’s always there. Always.
I can simply call out his name saying, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. It seems so simple yet it’s so effective and brings me tremendous peace. Will you try it right now? Close your eyes, take a deep cleansing breath and say Jesus, Jesus, Jesus out loud or in your mind, picture him standing in front of you, his arms reaching out toward you. Isn’t it wonderful how something so simple settles your soul.
“for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13 NIV
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 NIV
When we wake up after a bad dream or we’re having a restless night we can reach out and talk with Jesus, he always brings peace.
Whatever it is you are going through. Whatever may wake you up in the middle of the night or has you fretting or worried throughout the day Jesus is your rock, your place of comfort, your refuge, your safe place and strong tower. Reach out for Him, He is always there waiting to comfort you. All you need to do is talk or pray or sing to him, stirring yourself up to feel him nearby. He is your peace.
“The LORD is like a strong tower, where the righteous can go and be safe.” Proverbs 18:10 GNBDC
Thank you, Jesus, for bringing us peace in the dark of night and the storms of life. Thank you for being there every time we reach for you. Thank you for your protective hand upon us. Thank you for wrapping your comforting arms around us. Thank you for always hearing and responding to us whenever we turn to you. You are our loving Strong Tower. Amen.
