Speaking with Authority
“Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always.
Philippians 4:8 TPT
Speak truth over the lies you are listening to and telling yourself. Gods truth chases away those lies and those of the devil too. When our thoughts are aligned with God’s word, we can’t lie to ourselves and the devil lies will sound hollow and empty too!
We need to frequently check our thoughts against the truth of God’s word. Jesus in the wilderness is a great example of how we should respond to the lies we tell ourselves and those the devil tells us. After being in the desert for forty days and forty nights, Jesus didn’t get sucked into the schemes of the devil, instead he rebuked him with Gods word using ‘it is written’ statements. (Matthew 4:4-11)
“Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’” Matthew 4:10 NKJV
Did you notice Jesus didn’t quietly pray, or say a few words in his head. No, He boldly, with His God given authority, command satan to leave and he did!
“So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 AMP
We have that same authority in us! Luke 10:19 says ‘Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you’ That’s powerful.
When was the last time you commanded satan to get behind you? Our commands have to be spoken out loud, with determination, boldness and authority. We can’t just think get behind me. Satan can’t read our mind he’s not omniscient. We have to use our voice, we have to speak out loud.
We must learn Gods Word. We must memorize it. We must speak it loudly. We should post it on our bathroom mirrors, our bedposts, in our cars, at our desks, along the bottom of our TV’s. Wherever we rest our eyes we should have the word of God there to reminds us of its power. The more we learn Gods word the easier it is to have authority over our ‘it is written’ statements.
Be bold. Take authority. Use these statements as a sword against the attacks of the enemy. When our thoughts are aligned with God’s word, the devil can’t easily make us believe his lies or bring fear into our lives because knowing his Word builds our faith.
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 ESV
“Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”
Psalms 119:11 NKJV
